Renowned as one of the greatest yachting events in the world and the premier event
on the yachting calendar in the Caribbean, the Bucket Regatta has evolved since its
inception in 1986. Originally held in Nantucket Massachusetts, then Newport Rhode
Island, St Barth’s first hosted the regatta in 1995 and has continued to do so every
March since. While the boats have grown significantly in size the spirit of the event
has remained unchanged. While the original intent was for the winners to have
superyacht supremacy bragging rights for a year, the contestants found the
comradery experienced by participating was more than enough satisfaction. It was
decided that the trophy to commemorate the win should be a token, this resulted in
an old silver bucket being chosen, hence the name, ‘Bucket Regatta’.

BUCKET REGATTA
The event is held over 3 days in the middle of March. It attracts elite sailors from all corners of the globe who lend their talents to the yacht owners entering the regatta.
On average 44 yachts compete each year ranging in size from the minimum entry requirement of 100ft to some over 350ft. ‘The Bucket’ creates an electrifying buzz in Gustavia. The mornings see the crews bustling about preparing for a day of hard racing on the water, while the evenings find the weary sailors returning to port to join their guests in a night filled with entertainment provided by DJ’s, acrobatic
performers and enough rum to put everyone in a festive mood.
